The 7 coolest rooftop bars in Bucharest

Travelling to Bucharest this summer? Stand above the crowds and enjoy a different perspective by relaxing in one of the many rooftop bars in Bucharest, the new trend in the city. Some of them will allow you to admire the beautiful architecture of the Old City, others offer great views over Herastrau Park and a few are conveniently placed on top of downtown hotels. Here’s a list of 7 bars, randomly displayed, that we find quite appealing:

Pura Vida Sky Bar – relatively new on the scene but definitely growing up fast in terms of popularity. Located on top of the hostel with the same name, this rooftop bar probably offers one of the most spectacular views over the Old City. You should definitely be there at sunset: grab a refreshing cocktail and admire the copper domes of the National Bank along with the 19th century architecture of the surroundings.

Upstairs Rooftop – another new entry with an even faster rise in fame, located close to the famous Victory Avenue and its many historical buildings and monuments. The bar’s design is a combination between futuristic and cosmopolitan elements, with the “half-moon” outdoor terrace being one of the main attractions. You can enjoy fine cocktails and fusion cuisine, combining Thai, French and American dishes.

Silk Panoramic is located at the very heart of Bucharest and offers a great view over University Square – a beautiful plaza with lots of history behind it. Placed on top of “Z Boutique Hotel”, the rooftop bar is also a restaurant with a good variety of Italian dishes. For the best view, pick a table on the main balcony and admire the National Theater, Intercontinental Hotel or the historical Coltea Church and Hospital – a splendid monument of the late 17th century which is also the first hospital of Bucharest.

18 Lounge is the place where you’ll clearly have one of the best views over Bucharest. Even if it’s not the highest point in the city, the panorama is stunning: the gorgeous Herastrau Park with its large lakes, the Kiseleff Avenue or the House of Free Press, a huge yet impressive building from the communist era. The glass walls, simple but elegant design, the outdoor terrace and the delicious food add up to the memorable views.

Nomad Skybar – a true feast for the eyes, right in the middle of the vibrant Old Town. During the day, this place can act as a fancy restaurant, relaxing garden or as a cool lounge bar. After nightfall, it turns into an exuberant club, hosting parties & musical events. The establishment has class and an intriguing design, both extravagant and friendly in the same time. Overall, it’s a place where you can relax or party with style, all the while standing above the crowded streets & pubs of the Old Town.

SkyBar Dorobanti – Bucharest’s first modern rooftop bar, located in the stylish Dorobanti neighborhood – an area known for its clubs, pubs & lounges long before the Old Town became an important nightlife hot spot. Looking as charming as ever, the bar has a cozy atmosphere and a unique, futuristic design. Almost everything is white; it has a large retractable glass roof, water filled glass walls and even an artificial river crossing the floor.

Deschis Gastrobara different type of rooftop. In Romanian, “deschis” means open but also welcoming, friendly or open-minded. This is exactly the type of attitude found here and the goal is to create a meeting place for creative, active people. Gastrobar is, up to a point, the reflection of the artists & event organizers that work in the building below. Thus, the bar hosts outdoor movie projections, educational workshops and artistic events.
