12 hours | 4X4 vehicles | 4 Natural Wonders | Pick up & drop-off | Licensed guide |
Fresh air, mountain scenery, relaxation…we all love a short break away from the city. Yet, this is more than a trip in the wilderness. This private Carpathian off-road tour means: alpine roads, natural wonders, legends of the ancient Geto-Dacians & a monastery hidden in a cave. Oh, and lots of horsepower. What’s it all about?
It’s about Bucegi Mountains – the heart of the Carpathians and gatekeepers of Transylvania. It’s about your very own off-road adventure in some of the most famous, mystical and beautiful mountains in Romania. The best part? It’s all packed in a single day trip from Bucharest: slow paced, relaxed and family friendly!
Main route: Off-road, myths, breathtaking views and a hidden monastery!
♦ Pick-up at 8AM, from your hotel in Bucharest. Private transport to Sinaia ski resort, at the foothills of Bucegi Mountains. There, we’ll jump in our 4×4 off-road vehicles and cross the mountains using the beautiful TransBucegi alpine road. Several short stops for panoramic views and for the “on top of the world” feeling.
♦ 1st stop: Zanoaga Camping. We’ll leave the cars behind and, after a bit of hiking (approx. 15 min), we will reach the entrance of Zanoagei Gorge. Here, wilderness is at its best: a small stream crossing between 2 giant walls of stone, abundant vegetation and beautiful bridges from where you can take photos.
♦ 2nd stop: Bolboci Lake – “The sea of Bucegi”. Standing on top of the nearby dam, you can admire the beautiful reflections of the lake. Next, we’ll take the cars on a 4km long, purely off-road trail up to the “Bridge of Flowers” plateau. On the way up, we’ll stop at an old, traditional sheepfold. The views from the top of the plateau? Well, this is a surprise. No spoilers! Google has not reached this place yet :-)
♦ 3rd stop: Ialomitei Cave & Monastery, a place of legends & myths, some being related to our ancestors – the ancient Dacian civilization. Inside the cave’s many galleries, you can admire the Halls of Decebal (a great Dacian King) or the Shrine Room where you can drink a very pure mineral water.
♦ 4th stop: Padina Plateau. After the visit at the monastery & cave, we’ll return to Padina and stop at a traditional log cabin for lunch. Afterwards, it’s back to Sinaia and then straight to Bucharest.
Additional attraction
♦ 5th stop (weather restricted) Sphinx of Bucegi – natural wonder & symbol of the Dacian civilization!
Stonehenge? Sphinx of Giza? No, this one is not man made. Resembling a human face, the Sphinx of Bucegi is a natural rock formation used as a place of worship in ancient times. Simply put, it’s a wonder of nature!
We can reach the Sphinx plateau (2200 m) by cable car. Once up there, if you wish to do a bit of extra hiking, we may also go to Caraiamn Chalet (30 min hike) and admire the entire Prahova valley beneath us! A mind-blowing view and probably a once in a lifetime experience!
Note! For safety reasons, The Sphinx cable-car is closed during bad weather (strong winds, storms). A return ticket is 10 EUR.
